SOME THINGS TO AVOID

-  Prolonged exposure to oils and oil-based products
-  Extreme Heat

It is rare, but possible, to develop a crack in granite from to much heat. A good rule of thumb is to treat it like glass, and use coasters and hot pads. Granite floors should be dry dust mopped frequently to prevent dulling.

Granite is the hardest of the natural stones available. It is most resistant to scratching or chemical etching, but it is still possible to damage the surface of the granite.

HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN YOUR TOPS

A damp cloth, Windex, and Counter Clean can be used to clean the stone. To remove oil and grime you can use liquid dish soap. Granite should be rinsed with clean water to remove any soap film. 

DO NOT use any abrasive cleaners. A dry cloth can be used to dry and buff the granite and remove any streaking. Oil spills should be cleaned up and not allowed to stand on the stone for a long time as they may soak in and stain.

HOW TO RE-SEAL YOUR STONE

The stone on your project supplied by Prestige Stone, LLC has been sealed with a penetrating silicone sealant. The sealer will help protect the granite, but will not make it impervious to staining.

The sealer should last for many years; however, you may find that it is necessary to reseal. A simple test of the sealer is to place a wet sponge or rag on the surface for 5-10 minutes.

After removing the sponge you should not be able to notice where the sponge was placed. If there is a dark area under the sponge we recommend that the stone be resealed.
